mustangs trounce beavers
Meridian played Beaverton last Friday, and I shot it for the Daily News. By halftime, Beaverton was down 27 points. High school football's rough.
self portraits
After shooting with Taylor the other day, she insisted on photographing me as well. Here're a few frames; I love documentary photography but am really enjoying the lighting experimentation process.

Got excited about upcoming fashion assignment for JRN 420 last night after class critique for the location lighting stuff. Brought a strobe and umbrella home and my roommate and I played with some grunge-inspired portraiture.

JRN 420: location lighting
Here are some environmental, strobe-lit portraits, using a snooted strobe from the right, a mini slave-wide plus from above, and a strobe to silhouette her hair.
Meghan Borland, a Mount Pleasant senior, works on an installation piece in clay, the ninth she has made for a series of thirty. Each takes an hour to make and she plans to hang them from the walls when presenting.

Here's the North Art lighting setup, complete with baller light crew..

Waterford senior Sean Proctor crouches in a locker in Wightman Hall, lit from behind with a strobe inside the locker and a snooted strobe directly on his face.

jrn 420: viets woods hipsterkid
Today during studio class Kent handed out pocket wizards, light stands, strobes, umbrellas, and we scored a clamp claw thing. Sean made some portraits of Kent in the IET building and I made some of Sean in Viets Woods. Good times.
Here's one Sean made of me after demanding to get back behind the lens..

a day's work
Somedays you get up in the morning for an early assignment and spend the day around town, end up catching an office celebration, learning all about the art of brisket barbequing, and topping it off with a flight in a hot air balloon. See why I love photojournalism?
Here's a few frames from the day.

jrn 420: portrait one
Dana Fey, 30, is a local actress and blacksmith, born and raised in Midland. I met her a few weeks ago on assignment for the Daily News and thought she'd be a great subject for my first 420 studio assignment. Here are a few favorite frames from this morning's shoot. Many thanks to Dana, who was great to work with and fun to shoot.

Dana has been blacksmithing for about a year and frequently does commissions. Jewelry is one of her favorite things to make, one example being her leaf necklace, which she said took her about 45 minutes to complete.
Here's the lighting setup - key light was a softbox to her left and I experimented with a rim light behind her, slightly to the right.
Simple, but I'll learn more complex things later.

victory for juniata christian
Shot soccer for the first time tonight. Since it's one of my favorite sports, the experience kind of rocked.
